What Is Health & Wellness Blood Testing

Health and wellness blood tests are labs that help you to screen for potential red flags that could compromise overall health and wellness. BioStat Health offers lab testing and health and wellness education using a functional medicine perspective. A Functional Medicine approach evaluates the body as a whole, with a unique perspective focused on the relationship of one body system to another as well as potential nutrient imbalances and toxic overload that may compromise these relationships. Health and wellness testing can be used to monitor heart health and wellness goals and keep informed as to how you are doing.

Toxicology Testing Process

We provide accurate Urine Drug Testing (UDT) for prescription, recreational, and illicit drugs as well as alcohol and nicotine. This is important for individuals, employers, and physicians. The laboratory uses highly-sensitive UDT and oral fluids testing technology to ensure reliable results through screening and confirmatory testing.

The screening test uses an immunoassay to look for the parent drug and/or metabolite. If a confirmatory test is required, it will be ran through liquid chromatography/tandem-mass spectrometry (LC/MS/MS); the confirmatory test is very specific and is typically used when testing for the presence of a specific drug is needed. The methodology to obtain confirmation depends on the type of drug being tested.

Why Perform Health & Wellness Blood Testing?

When it comes to health and wellness, Its a good idea to establish a “baseline” in order to make the necessary modifications in order to obtain your health and wellness goals. Obtaining follow up health and wellness lab testing will show how you are progressing towards your health and wellness goals. Your health is your responsibility and your business. BioStat Heath helps you to monitor your own health and wellness goals. We also offer understandable and informative functional lab descriptions in order to foster a proactive and preventative approach to health and wellness.

Immunoassay

The first step of a 2-step confirmatory process

  • Grouped by class of drug: Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Benzodiazepines, Cocaine, Cannabinoids, Oxycodone, Opiates, Methadone, Buprenorphine, PCP, and Ethanol
  • Initial immunoassay screen reports qualitative results (positive or negative) based on established cutoff concentrations

A confirmatory test that is performed as the second step of a 2-step process.

  • Level of sensitivity and specificity is significantly greater than immunoassays due to a lower cut-off value (ng/ml).
  • LC-MS/MS detects compound specific individual drugs in patient samples.
  • We test for parent drugs (ex: Hydrocodone) and for metabolites (ex: Hydromorphone). This allows for better interpretation of patient’s medication and/or illicit drug use.
  • This testing method is the most sensitive and specific to help exclude false positive results.
  • Used to confirm positive results.
